Feature Friday: Katherine

I know for the last couple of months I have been doing Mom Interviews on Friday. Well, this Friday I have a old favorite. Feature Friday! I had a very sweet girl email me about her love of baby names and of course I did an interview with her! Her name is Katherine and she has a blog that is so cute. It's not a baby name blog but I still love it. Anyway read on to see all of her amazing answers.
Katherine

How did you get into baby names?
I have loved names for as long as I can remember. As a young child I became fascinated with how my mother, aunts and grandmothers came up with their childrens names. Each person has their own story behind their name, which is just amazing. As I grew up, I became interested in not only the name itself, but the spelling, the meaning and what type of personality each name held.

How old were you when you first started liking baby names?
I was probably very young, as I cannot remember not liking names. I was probably only five or six when I first began asking my mom why my name is Katherine.

What are your current favorite baby names?
They change often, but at the moment I have three favorites for each gender
Girls: Emilia, Darcey & Luca
Boys: Emry, Teagan & Niall

If you remember, what were your first favorite baby names?
I have always loved the name Grace. That was probably my first, followed by Noah, Ella and Bennett.
All of which I still like, but they are a bit popular for me.

Why did you decide to start making blogging?
I have always loved writing and I have always been fairly good at blogging. Once I found YouTube and began to read blogs by people such as Anna Saccone, Zoella and Tanya Burr, I realized it was something I wanted to do, I just did not know what I wanted to write about. Then, when I decided to move from Canada to England, I realized that I could begin blogging about that. It has been my way of discussing my feelings, what adventures I am having and just my life in general. I am excited to continue throughout life and hopefully someday discuss my own baby naming stories!

What has been the most fun about blogging?
Meeting new people! Getting comments from people around the world and realizing that blogging is really a community of people who want to make you feel included in something.

Are you working on any special blog post or anything for your blog?
At the moment, I am working on the post about my goodbye party. It has a lot of DIY things in it and I am really proud of what I was able to accomplish. I am also finishing up a little blog series called My Summer Bucket List. It is a list of things I wanted to do before moving and it was a lot of fun to experience and to write about.

What types of baby names to do like (ex. Trendy, vintage, etc.)?
I am not sure what style I have. I like names that are not heard often, but that are still recognized. Spellings have to be fairly easy and I love names that have ties to my heritage or my family. If I had to describe my style, probably vintage with a twist.

When did you tell your friends and family about your love to baby names?
I am not sure I ever did. It has always been part of me. I have talked about names since I was a little girl, naming my dolls.

How did/do your family and friends react to your love for baby names?
I always share my new found names with my mom and sometimes my sisters. They do not understand my love, but I have been able to help my friends and family find new names to put on their own lists. They have just accepted that I am a literary girl and this is part of me.

What is the reason behind your blog name?
I wanted a name that explained my purpose, but that was not too long. I am a girl who loves fashion and is moving to England, so I thought My English Style Life fit perfectly. I am sure I could have been more creative, but this is me now.

Do you have a favorite baby namer (YouTube, blog, etc.)?
Ou, wow. That is hard. Probably Stephanie from AnastasiaRuby. She is the first baby namer I ever watched and I feel sort of loyal to her. She pulled me away from my Ella stage and introduced me to names like Lyra and Adelaide, both of which are now on my list. She is also a Canadian and a wonderful mother, someone I can look up to.

Do you have a #1 fan on your blog or someone who you talk to a lot because of them?
Not yet, I think my blog is a little bit too new for fans! I have met two wonderful girls through YouTube and my blog, both of whom I have chatted with and they are both extremely lovely girls. Unfortunately, one lives in Texas and another just moved from France to the USA, so it will be a long time before we ever get a chance to meet.

What inspired you to make a blog besides baby names?
Funny enough, you would not think that my blog was inspired by baby names, but in a way it was. My love of names as a child helped me to explore the world and its different names. I came across British names and became hooked. It was then that I began to explore the idea of England and now, here I am. Moving to England. Someday I will have my very own babies and they will most likely end up with British names!

Where do you find your baby names at?
Nameberry, mostly. Some from other people and some from YouTube. I am always looking for inspiration.

Do you know anyone in real life that has a formspring/youtube/blog?
I know a few people in my city who keep blogs, my best friend and her husband have one about their life in the prairies, but no one that is widely recognized.

Random fact about you?
I added a second middle name to my full name in December of 2012. It is my aunts first name. We have always been very close and A LOT alike, so my mother and I decided to surprise her by changing my name!

What did you think of this interview?
Really interesting, helped me to reflect and think about my love of names.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Not really, except for the fact that I hope someday my children can hear their own naming stories and feel proud of what names they carry. I hope that all my research and my love of names can give my children wonderful titles.

I have to say I really loved this interview and talking with Katherine. It was so nice to interview a baby namer lover after so long. I love my mom interviews but I also love my baby namer interview just as much. I loved that if you went to Katherine's blog you wouldn't think she loved baby names right away. It made the interview that much more fun! Thanks so much Katherine for doing to interview. I loved talking to you! Make sure everyone goes and checks out her blog! Click here!
