Mom Interview: Alexia Mae and Judah David

Happy Friday, everyone! I am back with another Mommy Interview for you. Today I have a really fun one for you. I got to interview Alexia Mae from youtube! She is a fellow namer and has an amazing youtube, blog, and baby name instagram. Alexia Mae gave birth to her little boy on November 2, 2012 and named him Judah David. Read on to find out how she named him and a little about her decision!

Alexia Mae and her handsome boy Judah David!

What is your baby's name?
Our son's name is Judah David, which means "Praised Beloved".

Gorgeous name! Did you pick Judah David because of the meaning or something else?
I'm a biblical baby name nerd, and I've loved biblical names for a long time. When I was 16 I heard the name Judah, and it was like I was hearing it for the first time. It was like it chose me. I shared it with Josiah when we got married, and he was instantly drawn to it, too. We just knew that we would have a son named Judah. David is after Josiah's dad. And yes, meanings are important to me, too, and so the good meaning of Judah David was an added bonus.

I love how you fell in love with the name and still loved it years later. I just can't get over how great the combo is! Did you think about any other names besides Judah even though you knew you wanted a son named Judah?

A part of the reason we knew the name Judah was perfect was we did still love it after so many years. I think everyone goes through phases of liking different names, but it's the one or the few that are always there that you know are actually of substance to you. A girl name was tricky for us, we could just never land on something we were both in love with. I liked Tabitha, Cassia, and I really loved Salomae nicknamed Sally after my grandmother, and Josiah was voting for Tacoma. After I suggested to him the middle name Diesel or 4-Wheel, we realized how glad we were to be having our Judah!

One of my biggestest fears when I have kids is I will name them and then not like there name any more. Your girl names are so pretty! Do you use any nicknames?
I think a way to make sure you don't fall out of love with your children's names is if they have a lot of meaning to you. I think it's risky to use names that you just like the sound of. Like, I love the name Landon, but there is nothing tying me to the name. Right now I really like Judah Landon instead of Judah David, but in 10, 20 years, David will be still holding his own, and I don't know where Landon will be. Someday if I have a daughter, my heart of hearts is to use the name Salomae, even if it's only as a middle. It's my grandmother's name, it has a nice meaning, and like Judah, it's stayed on my favorites list throughout all my different name phases. I'm thinking of Blythe Salomae or Salomae Blythe. I adore the nickname Sally, but I also like the combo Sally Maewyn. I don't know, we'll see!

I never thought of it that way! That's a great way to see to see names! I LOVE your girl name! It's so beautiful! When you picked out Judah's name did you tell anyone right away or did you wait until he was born?
Thank you! :) Josiah and I decided to keep the name Judah to ourselves. I have personally seen name theft, and right or wrong I had grown so close to the name Judah, I felt like I owned it in a way. I didn't want to risk it, so we kept it close. After the ultrasound when we found out we were having a boy, we called our family and told them that we were having a son, and his name was Judah David. During the rest of the pregnancy we spoke of him and used his name, and it spread quickly, and people really loved it.

Name thefts are the worst! I could never take a name if someone I knew was going to use it. I think we covered everything! Is there anything you would like to add?
Ren, thank you so much for the interview. It was great corresponding with you, and I look forward to reading it finished on your blog! I'd love to collab sometime.
