Peirson

I normally don't take the name request I get on instagram and bring them over to the blog. They are normally just pictures with the meaning and origin and the occasional fun fact. This time it is a little different. I was asked to make a name picture about the name Peirson. It was a name I had no idea about and even went to the asker to verify the spelling. After a little talk with Cassidy (the asker), I got the spelling right and was determined to find out as much information on the name.

I did some research, which was easier the second time around now that I had the correct spelling, and found more information than I could put in a instagram post. That's why I am over here now!

Surname
Peirson is most commonly heard as a surname, yet even than it isn't heard very often either. You can find it more in the New York/Pennsylvania/New Jersey area than any where else in the United States. The name dates back to medieval England.

As for where the origin, it is believed to come from either the names Piers or Pierre. With Piers as its origin, Peirson means Pier's son and Piers is a French variant of Peter. Pierre is also a French form of Peter. Peter means stone in Greek. In the end, no matter what name Peirson comes from, it means stone.

There are many variants to the spelling of Peirson. We have Pearson, Peerson, and Pierson.

Given Name
When you look up the name Peirson on baby name websites you are given 3 different origins.

  • English meaning Son of Peter
  • Greek meaning Rock, Stone
  • Form of the name Pearson
With all of those origins, the name leads to the meaning stone just like the name Peter.

Peirson Name Bearers
I was surprised at how many people I found bearing the name Peirson as either a first name or a surname. The first thing google brings you when you google the name Peirson is Peirson Meyer Wines. The company was named after the 2 founding families.

Francis Peirson is the second name bearer to pop up on google. He was a British army officer who served during the American War of Independence. He was killed in the Battle of Jersey. Maybe there's a coincidence of his death and the surname Peirson being most popular in New Jersey.

Peirson Ross is a Canadian alternative folk artist. This is the first and only person I was able to find with the first name Peirson.

Jimmy Peirson is an Australian cricket player. He is in his early 20's. I wonder if the surname is more popular in other countries besides the United States.

Pierson Center is a biomedical treatment place for children with down syndrome. I find them at the bottom of the google page.

I think this is a great name. I really enjoyed doing all the research for the name and am thinking of doing it more often.

Instagram Name Spottings {Vol 2}

I did my very first Instagram name spotting last month and thought I would do a Vol 2 today. I am always on the lookout for new names and throughout the month I make a collection for you guys. Here are some of the cool names I've found.

Zuleykah Leilani: I'm not exactly sure how to pronounce this name but my guess would be zoo-lay-kah
Grey Delphine: A very modern first name paired with a classical middle
Alvah: This reminds me of Alvin and Ava.
Revelynne Hope: I've never heard of this name before but Rev is pretty cute.
Sauntina: Another name I'm not sure how to pronounce but it still looks very pretty.
Aviana Nayeli: Aviana is goregous and Nayeli is cool. I love both names together.

Boys
Ackley Raymond: Ackley is such an unique name. Fits well with other -lee names.
Ashford Drake: I really like this new spin on Asher.
Ransom Alan: Such a cool name! And brave parents too.

Siblings/Multiples
Laylah Angeleigh, Mylah Antoinette, and Bria Adaleigh: I noticed that this mom likes y's and leigh. I think the names fit nicely together.
Cherish Grace and Liam David (twins): The only reason this name is on the list is because of Cherish. It's so different!
Hayden Irene and Bennett Sidney (twins): Mom likes unisex names and classical names.
Brody Easton, Brixley Ella, and Brevyn Elliott (b): A set of siblings with some pretty different names. I wonder what they would name a mother baby?
Laikyn Cree (g) and Lennyn Kate: The names match nicely. I just wish they were spelled a little differently.
Ellerie (g) and twins Aven (g) and Asher: These are some pretty cool names. I like Ellerie and Aven together but I wish Asher was a little bit more unique.

Girls
Nancy Hope: I seem to be seeing Nancy a lot more and its actually a pleasant surprise.
Wilder Frances (Jessica Simpson's goddaughter): I prefer Wilder on a boy but Frances is a nice middle name. I do think that a more feminine middle name would be great for Wilder.
Jovi Katherine: Jovie is so cool! Katherine helps balance this whole name out.
Selah Joy: Both gorgeous names
Paislynne: It's a cool alternative to Paisley
Ellington Claire: You can use the common nickname Ellie but with a unique name.

Boys
Valor Chet: Valor is a great virtue name and I had Chet on my top 20 list a few months back.
Shepherd Zion: Shepherd is in my top 10 list and Zion sounds great with it.
Graydi Cash Kautz: I like Grady but not so much this spelling.
Summit Ander David: Summit it so cool! Reminds me of a mountain.

Siblings/Multiples
Lofton and Linden: a set of brothers. I've heard of the name Linden before and I've heard it also used on a girl but I've never heard of Lofton.
Waverly Maye and Avalon Elle: A set of sister. I just love these together!
Holland Ray (b) and Navy Jude (g): I love Holland for a girl and Navy is both a cool name and color.
Meadow Nightingale Shine and Cove Huntington David: A set of boy girl twins. Love love Cove and I think their middle animus are cool.
Kingston John, Raena Marie, and Esme Yvette: Such pretty names and a cute group of siblings.
Scout Rowan (b) and Loie Juliet: Scout is amazing but I think paired with Rowan its a little confusing of the gender. Loie is really different.
Townsend (b) and Hendrix: My first guess is that Townsend is a family name or a surname. I think Hendrix is pretty cool.

Q&A #1

I asked for questions on Instagram because I want to start doing a question and answer every once in a while, maybe once a month. I got some really fun questions so let's just get started!

1. What are your top 5 favorite names (both genders) right now? asked by erinlovesnkotbsb
Well, I'm currently working on updating my top 20 names right so these are subject to change. I'll include middle names too. As for my list, the boys list is more set in stone where as the girls list will mostly likely change soon.
Boys
1. Atlas Conrad
2. Shepherd Jameson
3. Bishop Montgomery
4. Theodore Landon
5. Arrow Dean

Girls
1. Juliette Rosalie
2. Magnolia Beatrice
3. Parker Adalee/Adelaide  (I can't decide on which middle name I like)
4. Maven Seraphina
5. Esme Matilda

2. Do you like the name Winona? by actualdragontears
I actually really love the name Winona. It's one of my favorite W name for girls. To me Winona is a country name that's pretty timeless.

3. What would you rename yourself using only Disney names? asked by tulipbyanyname
Ohhhhh this one is so fun! I love Disney and there are so many Disney names out there. The first name that came to mind was Alice (Alice in Wonderland). So I'd go with Alice Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) or Alice Colette (Ratatouille).

4. What's your top 3 favorite celeb baby names of all time? asked by kaycarv
Just three?! Since I'm doing just three I'll do the first three that come to mind. I'm going to have to do a who post on my favorite celebrity baby names.
1. Lorenzo Dominic (Snooki's son)
2. Israel David (Jill Duggar's son)
3. Keeva Jane (Alyson Hannigan's daughter)

5. Can you see the names Julian, Leif, Canaan, Camden, and/or Lincoln on a girl? I know ladies with the first four names listed. asked by koi_truth
This is fun especially since I am seeing boy names used on girls a lot more. I have seen the names Camden and Lincoln used on little girls before so I can definitely see that. Julian is so close to Julia that it could work on a girl. As for Leif I can't really see that on a girl. I feel like its too masculine for a girl. Canaan has me on the fence. I want to say I can see it on a girl but than I want to say only a boy.

Thanks for the questions! I had so much fun answering them and I can't wait to do more in the future.

Bring It On Names

I love hearing new names or even names I have forgotten about. It's even better when they come from pop culture. While I was on spring break I watched a lot of movies and some of them were the Bring It On movies. Who doesn't love a little cheerleading and girl drama?!

Anyway while watching the movies I heard some interesting names and decided to do a little digging. There's actually a lot more interesting names than I had originally thought. So here are some of the character and actor names. Plus the answers to my instagram game.

Characters
Torrance (Bring It On)
Torrance is an Irish unisex name meaning little hills that is used on a girl in the movie. I think Torrance is a nice spunky name that would be a great alternative to Victoria while still keeping the nickname Tori.

Darcy (Bring It On)
Another unisex Irish name used on a girl in the movie, Darcy means dark one. I think Darcy is a perfect fit for the time period of the name. I definitely would love to hear it a lot more.

Winnie (Bring It On: All or Nothing)
Winnie is a diminutive of the name Winifred and means holy peacemaker, gentle friend in English. I just love the nickname Winnie for names like Winslet, Bronwyn, and Rowan. I prefer the spelling Wynn/Wynnie though.

Carson (Bring It On: In It to Win It)
Carson is yet another unisex name meaning son of the marsh-dwellers in Scottish. Although the name is unisex and it was used on a girl in the movie, it is much more popular on a boy. I think this is a sweet name on either gender.

Penn (Bring It On: In It to Win It)
Penn means enclosure in English. I am in love with the name Penn for a little boy! It's so short and sweet. It also makes a perfect middle name. Although you don't hear it very often it is still a nice name.

Actors
Huntley (Bring It On)
Huntley Ritter is the actor who plays Les in the first Bring It On movie. I was surprised to see this name but thought it would fit with some of the popular names like Brantley and Bradley for boys and Tenley and Brailey for girls. Huntley means meow of the hunter in English. I think I would much prefer Huntley on a girl.

Francia (Bring It On: All or Nothing)
Francia Raisa Plays Leti in the movie. She is also in the tv show The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Francia means French in Latin. This would be a perfect name to honor a Francis or Francesca. The nickname Frankie would also be really cute and vintage.

Names also from the movies that were on the instagram are Camille, Sierra, Vance, Jesse, and Ruben.
