Halloweek: Disney Villains

There are so many villains out there making the topic too broad to write a post on. I decided to focus on one specific topic: Disney. Who doesn't love Disney?! Below I've gathered 10 great Disney villain names for you. Let me know your favorites and if you would use any of them!

Gaston- Stranger, Guest; French
Gaston is the villain from Beauty and the Beast. He was in love with Belle and would not leave her alone. In the end he ended up killing her lover. The name is a classic in France and has been used since the middle ages. In modern times the name fits in with the Mason and Easton.

Jafar- Stream; Arabic
In Aladdin, Jafar is the most trusted advisor of Princess Jasmine's father. His gain is to rule over the country. In 2018, the name was given to 20 baby boys. I suspect it is not used often because of its association with the movie.

Hades- Unseen; Greek
Hades is the main villain in Hercules but he is also the Greek god of the underworld. In the movie, he tries to overthrow his brother Zeus to rule the world. Hades fits with the S ending boy names. Any brave namer out there would use this name for sure.

Medusa- To Protect, To Rule Over; Greek
Madame Medusa is a mean, red-headed pawnshop owner who kidnaps the little girl to help her receive a diamond in The Rescuers. In Greek mythology, Medusa was a beautiful woman who was so vain that the gods turned her hair into snakes. Medusa makes a nice exotic middle name in my book.

Edgar- Wealth, Fortune Spear; English
Butler Edgar tries to kill off the cats in Aristocats so he can gain the fortune. To my surprise the name has not fallen below the top 400 since it's been on the charts. I really did not expect to see the appeal in the name. It was once the name of some English and Scottish kings.

Percival- To Pierce the Valley; English
In The Rescuers Down Under, an eagle is being hunted by a poacher named Percival. He is as close to a real life villain as you can get on this list. The name can be found throughout the Harry Potter series a series among younger generations. The name is a knightly name found in the Knights of the Round Table.

Pete- Stone; Greek
In the Mickey world, Pete is a reoccurring villain. He first appeared in 1925 and has been around since. The name Pete is a nickname for Peter. It brings to mind a very 60s style. With names coming back into style and nicknames being used as a formal names, Pete is right up that alley.

Sid- Short Form of Sidney (Wide Island); English
The toys in Toy Story are stolen by Sid Phillips, a neighbor of the main character or destroys toys. Thankfully the toys get away. Sid is a diminutive of Sidney, a name once used more for boys than girls. The name not only started out on boys but was also a surname associated with aristocrats.

Ursula- Little Bear; Latin
The sea witch from The Little Mermaid bears the name Ursula. She tricks Ariel into trading her voice for a pair of legs. The name was not just used in a Disney film. You can find the name in a Shakespeare play and on a saint. In the 1980s the name was in the top 1000 and I think is ready for a comeback.

Ratcliffe- Red Cliff; English
Governor Ratcliffe came to Virginia in search of gold willing to do anything to get it in Pocahontas. The name is a prestigious surname. The name was not used in 2018 and neither was its spelling alternative Radcliffe.

Belle and the Beast's Children

Back in August I started this blog series and then researched for this post and just stopped. I forgot about this series, that is, until I was brainstorming post ideas for the new year and flipping through my name notebook. For these posts I like to watch the movies before finalizing my list of name inspirations. It gives me a better idea of the plot and little ideas I may have missed before.

For today's post I have Belle and Beast from Beauty and the Beast. My name inspiration comes from both Belle and the Beast. I took Belle's love for books and her father, Maurice, and combined it with the infamous rose and Beast's household object friends. My naming suggestions wouldn't be complete without looking at the moral of the story: seeing the inner beauty of someone.

Libby- My God is an Oath; English
Libby may not be an obvious choice for a book lover but bare with me here. I chose the name because Libby could be short for Library!

Astoria- Feminine Form of Aster (Hawk); English
Like Libby, Astoria is in honor of sweet Belle's love of reading. The nickname Story will be super cute here.

Maura- Feminine Form of Maurus (Dark Skinned); Italian and Spanish or Anglicized of Marie (Sea of Bitterness); Irish
Belle meets the Beast because of her father, the only living relative that we know of. Her love for her father is so strong so its only fitting that I feature names to honor him. Maura is a nice fix in my eyes!

Lavender- Pale Purple Color, Aromatic Flower; English
Lavender seems like a sweet Disney name. I filled the name from Mrs. Pott and Chip, the teapot and teacup from Beast's life. There are many flavors of tea out there and Lavender is one of them.

Rosabel- Combination of Rosa (Rose) and Belle (Beautiful); English
A single rose plays a an important role in the Beast's life so I had to add Rose names to the list. I choice Rosabel to be my main rose name because of the combination of Rose and Belle. To see more Rose name suggestions look below!

Cara- Beloved; Italian
The moral of the plot of the story is to look at people's inner beauty. I choose because it reminds me of caring. Plus the meaning is pretty nice too.

Joy- Joy; English
Just like Cara, Joy is inspired by a person's inner beauty.

Reed- Reed Clearing; English
Reed or Read is a nice honorary name for a book lover.

Morris- Form of Maurice (Dark Skinned); English
I pulled Morris from Belle's father Maurice. Morris would fit in Belle's little town.

Grey- Gray; English
Earl Grey tea is a tea familiar with many people. I can see Grey being a nice middle name to honor Mrs. Pott and Chip.

Boston- Place Name; English
Boston is on the list because the city is associated with tea.

Royce- Variant of Rose; English
To my surprise I was able to find a boy name associated with roses! I just had to add Royce to to list.

Brave- Courageous, Strong, English
When looking at someone's inner personality you look for the very best traits. I think being brave is something to be proud of. Brave or Bravery work here, especially as a middle name.

Noble- Notable, Noble; English
When you look up the definition of noble it says "possessing outstanding qualities" If that doesn't cover all qualities I don't know what does! Plus I think Noble is great for a little prince.

Rapunzel and Flynn Rider's Children

Who loves Disney raise their hand?! I know my hand is raised that's for sure! So many bloggers feature Disney names on their blogs. There is even a name blog dedicated to just Disney names. I can't say I haven't shared my own Disney inspired names on the blog before (links at the end of these post). I'm always looking for ways to write about topics people like but with a twist. Hence, this blog series was born.

For a few years now I have had this idea floating around in my head. Part of the inspiration came from multiple artist and their depictions of Disney couples as parents. Imagine, the famous Disney couples all grown up and starting their own families. What would they name their little ones? So here I am to bring some inspiration to these dotting parents.

First up is Rapunzel and Flynn Rider (or Eugene Fitzherbert), my favorite Disney princess. She is the lost princess and every year on her birthday they release lanterns for her. Her syllable (I believe you can call it that) is a golden sun. I tell you all of that because that is how I am pulling inspiration for the names.

Flora- Flower; Latin
There is a scene where Rapunzel is seen getting her hair braided and flowers placed in it. Throughout the movie you will find flowers. It seems as if the princess loves nature. No better name than a flower one.

Lux- Light; Latin
Like I mentioned above lanterns are a huge part of the movie. There is also a song called I See The Light.

Aisling- Dream, Vision; Irish
By far my favorite song from the movie is I've Got A Dream. At the beginning of the movie Rapunzel is wondering when she will be able to live her dreams and visions that she has.

Orli- Light for Me; Hebrew
Not only is the meaning of Orli have the word light in it but the full meaning is light for me. After everything the princess has been through I think its such  fitting meaning to a child.

Aurelia- Golden; Latin
The gold sun was a huge, huge role in the movie. I don't want to give any spoilers but if you watch the movie pay attention for the suns.

Lucius- Light; Latin
Prince Lucius sounds good right?! I can picture him in a disney movie.

Arman- Dream; Kazah
Arman kind of sounds like an old man name just like Eugene. Between the meaning and that I think it makes a nice name for a son of Rapunzel and Flynn.

Paz- Gold; Hebrew
Something about the sound of the name Paz sounds Disney like to me. I'm also digging the hidden gold meaning.

Orion- Bounty, Limit; Greek
Orion is a constellation in the sky. The lanterns in the movie can be mistaken for stars. Stars are also lights in the sky.

Chrysanthos- Golden Flower; Greek
Flowers and the color gold are important symbols throughout the movie so I had to put Chryanthos on the list!

Disney Moms {Mother's Day 2017}

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms, step-moms, grandmothers, and anyone who asks like a mom or has a motherly role! Today is a day to celebrate you! I am so lucky to have so many motherly people in my live, especially my mom. Moms are superheroes. In honor of Mother's Day I have a nice little posts about Disney moms. I love Disney and I love my mom so this post covers both.

Perdita- Lost in Latin
101 Dalmatians
Predita took in all the puppies that weren't hers and loved them. Growing up I always adored this movie and her relationship with the puppies.

Coral- Coral in English
Finding Nemo
Coral is only seen in the very beginning of the movie but it was such a touching scene. She tried to saved all her babies and sacrificed for them.

Elinor- Bright, Shining One in English
Brave
Elinor and her daughter do not have a great relationship mainly because her daughter is a teenager wanting to do her own thing. That causes tension and you see them fixed their relationship fixed and become stronger throughout the movie.

Eudora- Good Gift in English
Princess and the Frog
Eudora is Tianna's biggest fan and supports her daughter's dreams even when it seems they won't work out. There is no better support than your mother's support.

Mary- Sea of Bitterness, Rebelliousness, or Wished for Child in English
Peter Pan
Wendy and her brother are only seen with their mother at the beginning and end of the movie but you can see her personality in that little bit. She is loving and caring and everything you look for in a mom.

Hera- Hero, Warrior, Period of Time, or To Be Chosen in Greek
Hercules
Hera is shown as a very loving and overprotective of Hercules. It seems that she only wants what's best for him.

Nani- Beauty, Glory in Hawaiian
Lilo and Stitch
Nani is not your typical mom. She was Lilo's older sister who took on the role when their parents died. I loved watching their relationship grow and change throughout the movie.

Kala- Art Form, Virtue in Sanskrit; Hawaiian Form of Sarah
Tarzan
Kala was Tarzan's adopted mother after his biological mother was killed. There aren't many adoption stories in Disney and there needs to be.

Helen- Bright Shining Light  in Greek
The Incredibles
Throughout the movie, you can see the motherly love that Helen has for her children. Everything she does id for them.

These is just 9 Disney moms but there are so many more. What are your favorite Disney moms?

Finding Dory

Raise your hand if you've waited for the past 13 years for the Finding Nemo sequel! Don't lie because we all know the movie theater is going to be filled with people in 20s reliving their childhood. Finding Dory has been long anticipated by people of all ages. I know I've been waiting for it!

If you've been around the blog long enough than you know I like to celebrate fun and important events by writing blog posts. I'd say the Finding Dory premier counts as important in my books. I took at a look of some of the newest Disney names from the movie below.

Dory
Dory isn't a new Disney name but she is the star of the show so I had to feature her. Dory is a diminutive of Dorothy (Gift of God)  or Doris (Dorian woman). Besides being a nickname for Dorothy and Doris, Dory can be a nickname for Dora, Theodora, Teadora, Isadora, and Dorcas.

Destiny
Destiny is a new character to the Nemo franchise. She is a whale shark and one of Dory's friends. Destiny simply means destiny, fate in English. It wasn't until the mid 1970s that Destiny made her way onto the SSA popularity charts. She was pretty popular in the late 1990s/early 2000s but has been moving down the charts since.

Jenny
Jenny is Dory's mom. We finally get to met Dory's parents!  How exciting is that? Jenny is a diminutive of Jennifer, meaning fair, white. If you were born in the 1970s you know at least one person with the name Jennifer. That's if you aren't already baring the name.

Bailey
Bailey is a beluga whale. Did I mention that Bailey is a boy? He is! How cool is it to hear about a boy character with he name Bailey. I rarely every hear the name on a boy. Bailey is currently ranked at #108 for girls and hasn't been in the charts since 2010 for boys. In English the name means bailiff.

Charlie
Charlie is Dory's father. Compared to Jenny, Charlie sounds very modern. Parents are using it a lot more on baby boys and baby girls as just a nickname. The nickname is a diminutive of Charles meaning man.

Hank
Hank is a seven-armed octopus. Throughout the movie he is portrayed as being grumpy and just wanting a life all by himself. As a name, it is a diminutive of John (Yahweh is gracious) or Henry (home ruler). Most of the celebrities named Hank are given the birth name Henry.

Will you be going to see Finding Dory? I'm thinking about going to see it with my little sister if I get the chance. I'd love to go since I've been waiting since the rumors came out about their being a Finding Nemo 2.

****DISCLOSER: I did not watch the movie yet. The information I wrote about the characters I got while doing my research online. I also only included names of characters that were not in Finding Nemo with the except of Dory.***
