Titanic Names

Since today is the 100 anniversary of the Titanic, I thought that I would put together a list of names. So let’s get started.

Girls

1. Millvina- Millvina Dean was the last person to die, who was on the titanic. I couldn’t find the meaning of Millvina.
2. Madeleine- Madeleine Astor was John Jacob Astor’s wife.  Madeleine means woman of Magdala in French.
3. Margaret- Margaret “Molly” Brown made the lifeboat go look for survivors. Margaret means pearl in English.
4. Ida- Ida Straus was Isidor Straus’s wife.  Ida means hardworking in German.
5. Lucy- Lucy Duff Gordon was a dress designer. Lucy means light in English.

Boys

1. John Jacob- John Jacob Astor IV was a millionaire on the boat. John means God is gracious in English and Jacob means supplanter in English.

2. Benjamin- Benjamin Guggenheim was a millionaire who went down with the ship. Benjamin means son of my right hand in English.

3. Isidor- Isidor Straus was the owner of Macy’s, the department store.  Isidor means gift of Isis in Greek.

4. Edward- Edward John Smith was the captain of Titanic. Edward means wealthy guardian in English.

5. Bruce- Bruce Ismay was chairman of White Star Line. Bruce means from the town of Bruis in English.
